Maintaining a healthy smile is crucial to your oral health and the health of your entire body. Misalignment may cause jaw problems, which can lead to headaches and pain. Damaged teeth can now be restored with natural looking composite fillings and dental bonding. Contact Morrison & Lloyd Cosmetic & Family Dentistry to learn more about our general and restorative dentistry options. Orthodontics It’s never too late to bring your teeth into proper alignment with efficient, highly effective orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic care need not be lengthy and uncomfortable. Our dentists can minimize the amount of time spent wearing braces or other orthodontic devices. Morrison & Lloyd Cosmetic & Family Dentistry offers the Invisalign® orthodontic system, in which a series of clear, removable aligners are used to gradually straighten the teeth more discreetly than traditional metal braces. Braces are usually worn for one to three years, depending on the patient’s age and the severity of the misalignment. In some cases, patients can achieve their desired results by simply wearing a retainer. Please speak with our dentists to determine which type of orthodontic care is appropriate for you. TMJ Treatment A misaligned jaw can cause numerous problems in the rest of the body, including facial tenderness, headaches, and hearing problems. TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders are disorders of the jaw caused by grinding and clenching of the teeth. Often, this grinding occurs only during sleep, so it is easy not to be aware of the damage that is being done. In such cases, Dr. Morrison and Dr. Lloyd can create a bite splint or night guard to prevent TMJ damage. This guard is clear and custom fitted to your teeth to ensure a comfortable fit. Composite Fillings Composite fillings, also known as tooth-colored fillings, are an advanced, aesthetically pleasing method of treating tooth decay. Worn or broken teeth may also be repaired with composite fillings. The shade of these fillings is matched to the color of your teeth to create a more natural appearance than is possible with dark metal fillings. In addition, composite fillings are stronger than their metal counterparts, bonding to the chemical structure of the tooth for added support. Composite Bonding Composite bonding is a highly effective means of restoring teeth which have been damaged by chips, decay, cracks, and discoloration. Our dentists will match the composite resin bonding material to the color of your teeth. The resin will be molded over the damaged area and hardened upon exposure to a special light. Once the resin has been polished by Dr. Morrison or Dr. Lloyd, the bonded area will feel and look remarkably natural. Cerec Crowns A recent innovation available in the offices of some cosmetic dentists is the "Computer-assisted design—Computer-assisted manufacture" crown, or "CAD-CAM." The company that is foremost in this technology is Cerec. This crown is milled by a computer to fit your tooth precisely, thus eliminating the laboratory step in manufacturing the crown. With Cerec's CAD-CAM technology, the crown is made by a computer while you wait, thus eliminating the second appointment and the temporary crown. These Cerec crowns are milled out of pure ceramic. Cerec technology can also be used to manufacture porcelain fillings. There are some very skilled cosmetic dentists who are also able to create Cerec porcelain veneers. Doing these well requires an exceptional amount of skill. Remember that Cerec crowns are milled out of a single block of porcelain. This creates an esthetic problem because natural teeth have a gradation of color from the gumline to the biting edge. However, there are some cosmetic dentists who have developed the technology to create beautiful life-like porcelain restorations for front teeth with the Cerec system, with color gradations in the teeth and a beautiful polish.
